About

Adria's musical adventure began when she moved from Switzerland to London England at the age of 21.
London introduced Adria to a diversity of music, some similar to what she had heard in her native Colombia and other genres of music available in such multicultural city.

Born in Barranquilla- the Caribbean coast of Colombia where music and dance played a big part in Adria’s musical life.

Up to now, Adria was a dedicated fan of the American Song Book as well as listening to the pioneers of the Bebop style, Saxophonist Charlie Parker and Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie.
Her first encounter with live jazz was at a concert in New York where the one and only, "The Divine Sassy" was singing. This was one of Sarah Vaughan last concerts in the late eighties.

Listening and learning this style of music really made Adria fall in love with Jazz. The rich and emotional delivery, and the skills in Jazz improvisation through manipulation of lyrics and scatting really influenced Adria's approach to singing.

Later, Adria became a big fan of the work of Carmen McRae and Omara Portuondo.
These singers with their distinctive behind-the beat- phrasing, witty, sometimes acerbic way of conveying a lyric made them unique and a great influence in the way Adria approaches a song.

Adria's Latin American roots were always present in her performance as well as the music she grew up listening to in her native Colombia .

This led Adria into a path more familiar to her, she travelled to Cuba to work with the Buena Vista Social Club Project. This incredible experience saw Adria spending time amongst great musicians and taking every opportunity possible to perform locally.
The Latin American “filin” has been a great influence on Adria's singing, deeply affecting her emotional interpretive style.
When it comes to her relationship and approach to music, Adria is a free spirit with no boundaries. She enjoys mixing various genres and making them work in terms of innovation and synergy.
Adria has been singing since the age of 22. Her band played at The Jazz Cafe in London, she has performed at exclusive venues such as Ronnie Scott's and curated musical projects of musical art of different cultures.
She lives in Jersey and is the founder of Jazz en Jèrri, www.jazzenjerri.com created to provide opportunities for resident and visitor musicians in Jersey.
